What is RadiesseTM?
RadiesseTM is a dermal filler that temporarily adds volume to help smooth moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. RadiesseTM is made of tiny calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. The calcium microspheres are similar to minerals found naturally in the body so allergy testing is not required. Over time, the body absorbs the microspheres and gel, leaving behind only natural collagen.
Your Radiesse TM Consultation…
When you meet with the physician, she will explain to you the RadiesseTM treatment in detail and will assess your skin and your medical history. You will be asked about any allergies you may have and what, if any, medications you are taking. All of your questions will be answered and your physician will determine if you are a good candidate for RadiesseTM.
The Radiesse Procedure…
The RadiesseTM treatment is performed by the physician. During treatment, the Radiesse gel is injected into the skin with a very fine needle. When enhancing lips or facial contours, Radiesse adds volume and integrates within your skin's tissue to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.
Treatment with Radiesse is a very quick and easy process. A treatment generally takes 15 minutes depending on the correction you wish to have performed.
Most people find the injections relatively painless. A topical and/or local anesthetic will be applied to the area being treated prior to your procedure.
The results can be seen immediately. The length of time the effect of a Radiesse treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded and the injection technique. The physician strives for natural looking results. Experience indicates that touch-up and follow-up treatments will add to the duration. Results with Radiesse are expected to last up to 1 year, but results will vary.
Radiesse TM Recovery…
Immediately after the RadiesseTM treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, tenderness, or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injection. The discomfort is temporary and generally disappears in a few days. After a lip treatment, the lips may become swollen and look somewhat uneven. This can persist for a few days (up to a week).
The physician will instruct you not to rub or massage the treated area during the first 48 hours after your Radiesse treatment. If you have had a lip enhancement, you'll need to avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the area to intense heat (e.g. in a solarium or by sunbathing). If you feel irritated, keep the site cool with an ice pack. Avoid taking any aspirin-based products for a few days.
